I have well over 7,000 miles on a Pugsley with 4” tires and I did think that
the large tires would be much slower than “normal” size tires. I looked over my
commute data at one point and found that my average speed on the fat bike vs
other bikes wasn’t significantly less. This was on lots of hard pack as well as
pavement. Maybe once that weight gets rolling it wants to keep rolling?

I did do a commute on my 29 x 2” bike after a long stretch on my fat bike and I
felt like I was flying. But even though I felt like I was really moving my
average speed was actually less than on my fat bike.

I’m building up a tubeless 4” set of wheels currently and am curious how the
weight savings will make the bike feel. 8 oz of orange seal should be lighter
than a 1 lb tube.
