I would remove the rear tire and check with my fingers. You can feel the thickness off-center and estimate how thick the rubber is in the middle. If you do this to a new tire, you'll get an idea of how much you've worn. Off the top of my head, the checkerboard file tread is gone in the first third of my JB's lifespan. It goes for a while after that.
