What I do for BART steps Bombadil--Grab it by the undertube (parallel 2TT) Hilsen, Davidson, and Hillborne--Grab the seattube, but I hook my thumb into the top loopy part of the King Cage. That give me just a little bit of extra grip so the tube doesn't slide through my grasp.
