They are good for sure, just remember, if there are no trees, or only scrub trees, you might have some problems. I got caught by this twice here in NM. Once I could not find any trees at all near where I wanted to camp, the other time, everything was too flexy and close to the ground. You can sort of make a bivvy leanto out of them, but that is not as comfy, especially if you did not bring a pad.
