I carry a laptop in my large saddlesack (17" Macbook Pro).

I have it in an incase sleeve, and generally put a jacket or something else 
soft underneath the sleeved laptop to help with bumps. 

may be a tight fit in the medium, but the 13 would fit in the large (as 
pretty much anything can fit in the large, lol).
