I'm using the Tektro RX-6 so-called "mini" V-brakes on my LongLow now, with Tiagra levers. These brakes don't need as much pull, as longer-armed Vees, and seem to be very effective at no-drama stopping. Just a data point for you, some non-V levers can work with some V brakes.
