Which button?  Which vehicle?  Which actuator?

vehicle = newer automobile, button = start, actuator = starter
The "start" button is probably one of many digital inputs to one of many 
microprocessors.

You can also generate a one-shot pulse with 555 or 74121 timer chips in 
monostable mode.
