I've got a PV array attached to my standing seam metal roof directly above
my bed about 24" from my head when I'm sleeping and although we do hear
some expansion/contraction noises it's not a problem. Every once in a while
we'll hear a loud noise but I think that's more from my timber frame
shifting/drying than the array on the roof. I'm sure others' experiences
will vary.
