preceding a 10 ditig long distance call, which has been the case
since ...forever. :-)
Correct. I'm talking about 4-digit area codes. They're currently in
use in specialized places, such as video call dialing on Internet 2.

Thanks for the domain. I checked out their web site plus many of
their reports and couldn't find anything about 4-digit area codes.

Even the following lists only showed 3-digit area codes:
* Area codes introduced since 1995
* Planned area codes not yet in service
I don't doubt that 4-digit area codes may be coming, but they still
seem pretty far off.
