This actually happens often for some companies. My old ISP actually did
the same thing and I was a reseller, most of the php scripts died for
all my clients.
You just have to be careful and always have a plan B.

I've had mostly good luck with Dreamhost; they have great deals and
are my current hosting service, but I can't recommend them anymore
without the following caveat: The only problem I've had with them was
when they made an unannounced major upgrade to PHP (4.x something to
5.x) which broke the scripts that run my site -- this went unnoticed
for 10 days. When I finally found out it left me scrambling for a
couple of days to track down the incompatibly in my scripts and fix
it. However, when I contacted them about the problem they were
suitable red-faced with their apology.

Check out www.dreamhost.com, their offer is almost unbelievable, I
took the bait, and I am extremely happy with them.
I have had 2-3 problems, and when I ask them about it, they always
give me a no BS answer, they tell me exactly how things are and such.
Extremely good.
