I agree that word of mouth is a factor. Ive converted quite a few Director users to either REALbasic or Revolution since Valentina supports just about all dev tools out there. Word of mouth though is a much harder sort of metric and many companies I know simply ignore what is not easily measured.

Makes me wonder what they look at a lot for metrics
New sales would be one I'd look at as that at least gives you some idea about how many [people are being attracted to the tool Upgrades would be another one I'd look at as that gives you some idea about retention rates (or attrition rates whichever the case may be) I'm sure there's no easy way to figure out how many upgrades are bought and not used but it would be an interesting number to know if they can get it Getting lots of new users is great but if you lose them after a small number of upgrades then that should be some kind of red flag

Even the "sold 100,000 copies" number raises some questions that I personally would love to know the answers to.
Is that 100,000 license from v 1.0 to that point ?
Does that count upgrades as a "new" copy sold (in which case I think I counted for somewhere around 10) ?
How many of those 100,000 are version 2005 and higher ?
What percentage of licensed users are members of either the forums or the mailing lists ? I suspect it's a very small percentage since there are only about 3500 registered users in the forums.

Understandable. Do you remember the 'RB build using RB' case? _______________________________________________
