Perhaps I wasn't making my self clear.

I can draw what ever I want to draw quite quickly, it is the live scrolling that is the killer, when I scroll the y or x axis then it is unberable, the y scrolling is worse than x scrolling.

Mac OS has a concept of clipping rect - if object was outside of the
rect, attempts to draw it was ignored.

Maybe you could implement similar concept - for each object keep an
bounding rect. To check if two rectangle overlap should be very fast -
few hundred objects should not be a problem, even few hundred thousand
objects should be managable.
