I think that would be great. Even just an email to let us know that a new topic has started would be cool.

I disagree. This is nowhere near the usefullness of having all the messages in the mailbox
and being able to search them quicky - even when offline.

I never said it would be as good as the NUG, but at least it's better than having to search through the forums manually to see if anything interesting pops up. :)
