I totally disagree with this decision and I will not become an active user of the forum. This is an utterly short-sighted position. If you cut off the NUG, you will unlikely increase traffic on the forums since the forums are a fundamentally different model of presenting information. The NUG is a real-time conversation where answers are presented literally within minutes in a logical serial format (email) that has many advantages over the forum. The forum is more of a static based model that does not serve the developer community as well as the NUG does.
The reasoning that, "some people are having difficulty finding answers to their questions since information is stored in so many places" is completely bogus. This begs the question as to what the real reasons are for this decision. Please elaborate and convince us that this is a good business decision. What will happen is that a lot of long time users on the NUG (the people who really know the ins and outs of RB) will simply stop answering question since they will not use the forum. So your decision will mean LESS answers will be available thus having the opposite affect that you are trying to achieve by shutting down the NUG!!! The old saying applies that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. As you have noticed the reaction on the NUG to this announcement there has not be even one positive comment about this decision. You are generating significant ill-will towards RS and promoting the idea that RS has their head in the sand. Saying I am most certainly "pissed off" about this decision doesn't come close to my reaction (since I am trying to be nice). RS, you need to reverse this decision ASAP!!! Your customers are telling you that they hate your decision and they have given you valid reasons why they hate this decision. These reasons have been repeated over and over by the people responding to this thread. Look at how fast people have responded to this thread in the NUG and tell me you will get that kind of response time in the forum. I am totally against the idea of trying to put a band-aid patch on the forum to give it push capabilities since this is all vaporware at this point and a silly attempt to justify a really bad decision. If you are going to go that route, prove to me that it works just as good as NUG and that we don't lose the capabilities that the NUG provides BEFORE closing the NUG down!!!
