Holy horny toads, talk about reading into things... So I guess I should have used "lost serendipitous advantage", to be more safe, huh? Clearly _your_ comments were directed directly to me and were not at all as nebulous.

And yes as a paying customer I do expect RS to take my needs into
consideration. If every decision they make hinges on 'folding' or 'not folding' then its not really the kind of company I want to do business with.
How about customer service just for the sake of customer services.

If you don't think a few individuals make a big difference then I would suggest you read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. If you're going to be pissing off customers just make sure it not the Mavens that support your product. It's a butterfly effect that will soon create a monsoon of trouble
for you...

As someone whose been involved with RB and this list from 1.0 days, I've heard hundreds of one-sided whine festivals that contain a bevy of "suggestions" as to how RS should run it's business. They take some ideas and the dump others, even ones that the "majority" of customers _on_the_list_ insist on. And yet, RS is still here, still growing.

Don't get me wrong, I've been screwed very badly by RB issues and how long it took RS to fix them. But, last I checked, I didn't pay them $2-3 million dollars for my licenses either.

Certainly as someone who has two commercially successful products built with RB qualifies me as someone who needs RB to provide the best support possible. But because I'm looking at the big picture which includes business decisions beyond what's obvious to our individual needs, I realize that there is a limit that any company hits with regard to the amount and quality of support they can provide for free and, even with payment.

"pick your battles" is great advice and I do not see this one as a really important one, sorry. Certainly not one that will affect the future of RS either.

I'm having trouble tying your last statement together with the issue of the mailing list. Yes they might fold if the product becomes less stable... No
doubt about it...

The point is there is more danger of them folding because of product quality than removing the mailing lists, IMHO.
