I tought that this was the point of the windows "visible" property...

If checked, it is initially visible while the open / activate /  
control open event chain fires. If it is unchecked then you can  
resize/ move to your hearts content and the redraws will happen while  
it is invisible.

In practice I've found that this works better for composite windows  
though...
