The BASIC language that RS uses has nothing to do with whether or not it is a hobby tool or a professional tool. The language is fine. Cocoa and C# are just as high-level as RB is in many ways. The modern BASIC is not really BASIC at all; depending on how old you are and how much of the "old" BASIC you've used.
