My first computer program was punched cards on an IBM 1620 at U. of  
Connecticut in 1964.
It was in FORTRAN though. I didn't get to BASIC until about 5 years  
later using a teletype in Virginia connected to a mainframe somewhere  
in Wash. D.C.  It ran at 300 baud. We got an upgrade to 1200 baud and  
we could not believe a typewriter could type that fast!!
