If Craig wishes to have a window with a close button then it
shouldn't be a sheet window that is attached to the calling window
but be separate and have it's own close button.
The standard for OSX preferences and About windows is to have a
document type window.
...
The problem is that it is rightfully a sheet window: it only makes
sense in the context of the parent window and makes no sense on its
own. It is modal in the sense that it should block action on its
parent until it completes.
Both preferences and about windows make sense on their own.
Regardless of the merits or not, since no one has answered my original
question (how do I do it?), the discussion is moot: I'll have to
figure out some way of telling the users that they are wrong to ask
for this.
Craig
