As for games, I think that, aside from massively multi games, the 
ability for end users to modify content is actually a good thing. I've 
bought games that I didn't like <cough>Quake III Arena</cough> just to 
play mods.

Aside from that consideration, an easy way to obfuscate files from a 
user would be to create a virtual volume and save them into it. Or even 
compressed, then packed into it. This is similar to how Quake handled 
its resource files, but obviously that didn't stay all that obfuscated.
