Yes and no...most digital audio (there's a major difference between analog
and digital here, but I'll leave it alone as we're primarily dealing with
digital) is *supposed* to be set so zero level is 0 dB or +4 dB.
Unfortunately in reality, it just ain't so. It varies WIDELY from
manufacturer to manufacturer. Having worked in radio (mostly public radio,
which is real big on this kinda of stuff since public tends to sink a lot
more money into equipment than commercial radio does) I've seen stuff set
to zero at -10 dB, 0 dB, 2 dB, +4 dB and even +8 dB (!).
So don't assume your card is at -10 dB, or your equipment is +4 dB. Read
'dem specs!

Most all 'Professional' audio equipment is specified for a 0 or +4 db
output level while most
audio capture cards work with inputs of -10 db... Check your specific
capture card for input
level specifications....
