gimp 1.1.23.3

using redhat 6.2 I tried to install the latest
gimp from the rawhide directory but get the following error

[root@anthem kevin]# rpm -Uvh gimp-1.1.23-3.i386.rpm 
only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of
RPM
error: gimp-1.1.23-3.i386.rpm cannot be installed

What might be the problem here
