Greetings,
I was wondering if someone could help me here. My Linux server (runs ftp
and quake2) keeps dying with a the following error: "kernel panic
skput:over". Sometimes this message is followed by a bunch of numbers,
somethimes just the message. I've narrrowed it down these two cuases: The
quake2 server has been used for about an hour straight or I do an mget of a
large number of files while I'm logged onto the server (I'm pulling them
from ftp.lame.org to the server). These symptoms lead me to beleive that
its a network card/driver related problem but I'm to new to Linux to be
sure.
The box is setup as follows:
RH5.0 kernel 2.0.31 with all the errata installed.
Tyan 1570 Motherboard,
AMD k6-200
64 mb memory,
3 seagate 430 mb ide HDD
1 sanyo cd-rom
trident vid card
Linksys 10/100 network card using the tulip driver version 0.89H in full
duplex mode.
Any help with tracking this down would greatly be appreciated. I don't
have a lot of time to get this server back up and running stable. My ISP
gives me free hosting as long as I have Quake2 running and cusotmers are
not happy it keeps crashing. If I can't get RH to work in a day or so I'll
have only a few options. One being to start over with a fresh install to
see if that clears it up. 2. Going to a different net card that has more
out of the box support (intel 10/100) or going back to NT which I know
works and will be far more stable than where I'm at (my least fav since
Linux has better hardware utilization so I can have more clients connected
but NT is a very stable Quake2 server platform).
Thanks in advance.
Scott
