Do a search for UTF-8 in the RH 8.0 "RELEASENOTES" file and the 
searchable archives at: 

http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=redhat-list&r=1&w=2

for "i18n".  There's an environment setting for fonts that may fix the 
problem.
