Bart, Thanks for the tip! I know it was directed to someone else, but I'd been having the same problem, and it's nice to see it cleared up now.
I can't help but wonder, though, what the purpose was of changing the default LANG to UFT8 is. It obviously has something to do with internationalization, so I wonder if changing the LANG values to C will break certain features?
