I would still like the root user to be able to receive e-mailed system warning messages from localhost. Will disabling Sendmail prevent that from happening?
If you have not forwarded root's mail, then it will slowly accumulate in /var/spool/mail/root. If you have forward root's mail, then sendmail will attempt to deliver it, then quit. If the delivery failed, then the mail will be written to /var/spool/mqueue/ and it will sit there until you flush the queue manually or via cronjob.
