YUCK! This is a *very* large dependency that opens a large can of worms in secure environments. I'd really hate to update a firewall or mail server from source since many of these edge servers don't have compilers for security reasons. Not only do you need the "libraries" that you refer to, but many compilers, autoconf, automake, and a bunch of support tools.
