Unfortunately - and this was bad on my part I guess - I didn't leave *any* way to get into the Linux server except directly. My thinking here was noble - until I understood the security issues involved I didn't want to allow any access except via server system I am running, which just uses 80 (http), 21 (ftp) and 25 (SMTP). If I could SSH in I would be less hesitant about just restarting it because then even if the graphics board had died I would be able to get back in and do whatever else needs to be done remotely. As an aside, after I am back in, what do I need to do to give me (and just me) SSH access to the system?
