Just to let you know, all's well that ends well.

My server software (Web Crossing - great software - and there is a free
version now too!) allows server-side scripting. So I was able to execute a
Linux "reboot" command via the scripting software and safely restart.

I guess I could probably create a "safe terminal" app in Web Crossing
server-side JavaScript if I wanted to take the time. :-)

Anyway, the monitor was *not* dead. So even though I tried two separate
monitors, that was insufficient information. The signal was just not being
delivered.

It's probably a bug in the screensaver, which I have now turned off.

I guess my next step is turning on SSH services so I can login remotely when
needed. Is that really safe? :-)
