I'm assuming it does because I can start and stop lpd on the printer server. and I can run lpq to see an empty print quque and I can print locally.

This has me stumped!

Phil,

There are many things that could be getting in your way.
Here's something simple to check.
run:

redhat-config-printer on the machine that you're trying to connect to and check
out the Action / Sharing menu option. Make sure the Enable LPD option is selected.

Cheers,
Sean

P.S. I just noticed you're on Redhat 8 so this may not be an option for you but i'm thinking it should still
work.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for the reply. THe RH 8.0 Printer Config ui does not have Action / Sharing menu option that you are refering to.

Is there a command line alternative?

My thinking was that if I could restart the lpd from the Printer config than I could assume that LPD was enabled, but then again why am I getting the error message stating otherwise? Very strange! :+(

Hi Sean, In my efforts I noticed that lpd has a parameter -R port - remote LPD server port (lpd_port)

Is this something that I must set?
Thanks, Phil
