Well then, allow me to retort(*).  SECURITY IS NOT A PRODUCT, IT IS A
PROCESS.  There is no distribution or operating system that is
guaranteed to be secure tomorrow.  It is the onus of the administrator
to patch and maintain a server to ensure security and stability.  Either
of those versions you've mentioned *can* be considered secure, given the
skills and fortitude of the person using them.
