Well, incase anyone's wondering, after many many replies and many many hours
of trying to figure this out, I just said screw it and did a clean install
using bootnet.img instead. Now all is well. Lucky for me, there weren't any
further customizations after the previous install that I would have had to
perform over again. Thanks to all for your help, even if it didn't.

What you say here is true, but has the card's EEPROM been programmed with
address 0x300?
The hardware has to match. Linux doesn't set it.
