Sorry, I did a lousy job of explaining the problem. I have a 5MB /boot
partition at the begining of the disk. Linux boots fine off a floppy.
The BIOS doesn't even see the hard drive. I get something like "OS not
found" when it boots. When I try enter *something* for the primary disk
parameters, I get a drive detection failure or something like that, and if
I press F1 to continue I get the "OS not found" again.
If I can just get it to run LILO from the MBR of the hard drive, I can
take care of any other problems (if they arise).
I did go looking for a BIOS upgrade. So little information is displayed on
bootup (just that it's version 4.04) that I can't find any upgrade for
it. I started at phoenix.com and ended up on firmware.com who is glad to
sell me a new bios. It's a free ($50 value) computer, so I don't plan on
it.
I'll continue to boot off the floppy if I have to, I would just prefer to
boot off the hard drive long term.
thanks
charles
