If the disk geometry is different on the new system, you will run into
kernel panics unless you boot from some sort of system-neutral media
(like a boot floppy) and install the boot loader properly.
The LILO documentation should help with this; the manpages (man lilo and
also man lilo.conf) are good places to start.
