Thanks for the suggestion, but it exists and
has what looks like the correct info in it,
en_US.  Could this info not be getting propagated
correctly? and if it isn't, how do I fix it?

A little looking around and querying:

 rpm -q -f /usr/lib/locale/en_US/LC_ADDRESS

has result:

 file /usr/lib/locale/en_US/LC_ADDRESS is not owned by any package

which seems some what odd to me.  I look on a 6.2 system
and it doesn't even exist ( nor does /etc/sysconfig/i18n ).

Is there some particular rpm that is supposed to be responsible
for locale info/setup?
