It seems I had this problem once too. I resolved it by upgrading pppd to
version 2.4.0. You can get this version at:
ftp://linuxcare.com.au/pub/ppp/ppp-2.4.0.tar.gz
You may consider reading the changes in 2.4.x on this page:
