I've installed NCFTPd here on my lan at home, even though I"m behind a 
firewall for two reasons -- one it's easy to configure and two it's pretty 
darn secure...doesn't suffer from the recent buffer overflow and "globbing" 
exploits that Wu has recently been reported to have. Not having much personal 
experience I can only report that a buddy of mine is using NCFTPd on his 
server (which, as a server, *IS* live on the 'Net) and has not been hacked 
that way...
