I need some advice please - I've only been working with Red Hat for about 2 months now and so far everything is ok. I have an Email & Webserver setup here at home and everything is running hunky-dory...
ANYWAY - I've been using IEMS 5.1 as my Email server (www.ima.com) since it has built in pop3 and mailing lists. Well, I'm running into problems with the software dying at times, they've updated the software to 6.0 and I can't justify to my wife to spend $700 for a piece of software that we only use at home in a non-commercial environment especially since it's not working 100%. So I guess what I'm asking is, for me still new to Linux and needing this stuff going, what is the easiest way to have the following: (1) 10 or so Email addresses that I can access via pop3 (Outlook XP/2002 INSIDE my firewall) that the outside world can send mail to. I use a dyndns.org address currently and everything is fine there. I also need to be able to get to these mailboxes from my workplace. Which would be better? Sendmail, Postfix or what? (2) The ability to setup Mailing Lists that people can subscribe to either by sending an email to my daemon or by a web page interface. I'm willing to read and learn, but I hear that sendmail and majordomo are bears to setup so that's why I'm askling for public opinion. I also want to be able to put something on my resume and for when I go do jobs with companies that I do work on the side for - I've been a Windows person for years but I feel I need to get some of Linux under my belt in order to be more competitive in the job market.
