AFAIK, OpenOffice is the same as StarOffice, but without the "support" from Sun. I switched from StarOffice to OpenOffice and so far, I have had no problems with it. I used to have some MS file formats crash StarOffice, but never have had that with OpenOffice 1.0. I just upgraded to 1.0.1, and, so far am pleased.
