I had the same problem with the sound on my Dell laptop. I fixed my problem by altering the "default=0" line in the /boot/grub/grub.conf file. I changed it from 0 to 1. Now my system boots to the previous kernel by default. The file resembles a Windows boot.ini file.

Hi All!

I updated my RH8 kernel to the latest version using up2date. However,
once I updated the kernel it started to use aic7xxx instead of
aic7xxx_old. Unfortunately, as may of you may have noticed, the "new"
aic7xxx module is "broken" for older AHA-2940 cards (even though I've
updated my AHA-2940U2W card to the latest BIOS from Adaptec...). How do
I make GRUB load the older aic7xxx module?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Mike
