Hi I installed a promise TX2200 card a while back.
I found that the grub.conf and the information in the /boot partition did
not match. I copied the files from the boot floppy.
The initrd-2 xxxx file was missing so I copied it from floppy and renamed
it.
[root@Lizzi root]# more /etc/grub.conf

Subject: Re: Promise IDE card
I assume you have linux installed, then shutdown and put the ide card
in? If so, the reason you are a getting the kernel panic is because the
partition table has changed. When you install an ide card, hda hdb ect
changes to hde hdg ect.....You need to edit grub or lilo to point to the
right device names....
