Some of the key players are just getting older, as well. Youk looks like he is 43, not 33; Beckett isn't an ace any longer (and he really only was in odd-numbered years anyway) and he has a lot of years on his arm; Papi is still playing great and looks great but he is 36 and could break
down any time... I know it's a big 'if' but I still feel like if all of the guys were healthy, we'd have a very competitive club. Right now, with guys like Darnell McDonald, Ryan Sweeney and Mike Aviles all playing a significant amount of time, and Aceves not in his usual role in the bullpen, it's really tough to compete. Add in poor hitting from the catcher spot, and you have almost 50% of your starting lineup that consists of role players. Can't really compete in the AL East with that unless you have dominant pitching.
