Thanks Shane,

Right now I have a SEN 900 running as my main circ pump and a Little Giant
3MDX running my ETS skimmer. I had originally had a Little Giant 3MDXQ
running as my main circ pump but the thing was way too loud for me. I have
the tank (a 120G) on a wood floor in the living room so noise is an issue. I
hadn't thought of using a single pump for the whole system. Do you worry
about one point of failure ?

As a matter of fact I also have a very small pump circulating water thru my
UV as well. Do most people use just one pump ?

Andrew,
As mentioned, I use an Iwaki 700 RLT to run my 70 gallon system. I guess the
question for you is what exactly do you want to run with it? The reason I
ask it because with my 700 I run a chiller attached to a sea swirl, a berlin
skimmer, a chemical reactor, and two other outputs. Basically, the thing
runs my entire system. The only thing I don't use it for is to run my
refugium. If you plan on using the Iwaki for multiple returns or really high
water flow, then something in the 700 or higher range would work for you. I
would get one rated higher than you think you need, cause that will allow
you some flexibility. The Iwakis run fine with a little back pressure, so
you can put ball valves on all the outputs and turn them up or down as you
see fit without damaging the pump.

I am very happy with the performance of my pump. It does however add a
decent amount of heat to the tank, and although it is not noisy, it is not
the quietest thing in the world either.

IMO

Shane C.

What is everyone's opinion on the best main circulation pump
available for a
        120G ?

Interested in as little noise as possible with limited (O.K., no)
        maintenance.

        TIA
