Hello,

Thanks for clarifying (privately) that the namespace URI and schema would be
registered in the IETF XML Registry[1].

Since the only entries in those registries are IETF registrations, I assumed it
was RFC Required or Standards Action, but actually it's just Specification
Required. Lesson learned!

Registration of namespace URIs and schemas would be helpful to client
implementers.

I'm a little confused regarding this registration process now.

Looking at

https://www.iana.org/assignments/xml-registry/xml-registry.xhtml

I can see (for the most part) RFC related URIs, but no "proprietary" ones like the one we're trying to submit an EPP extension to the registry ("https://www.tango-rs.com/epp/idn-1.0";).

Also, well-established "proprietary" extensions like "http://www.verisign.com/epp/idnLang-1.0";, "http://www.verisign-grs.com/epp/namestoreExt-1.1"; or "http://www.unitedtld.com/epp/charge-1.0"; are absent.
So having our extension there seems like an outlier.

Also, I understand that IANA would assign a URN ("urn:...") to our extension if we registered its XML namespace/schema, replacing our own "HTTP" namespace URI for the purpose of registration. However, wouldn't that also require/suggest that we'd need to use that IANA-assigned URN as the XML namespace URI going forward, i.e. to change our extension's XSD, in turn requiring all registrars already using it to change their client implementations? Seems like an unnecessary effort to me.

Note that the entire reason we're registering our extension (which has been around and used for more than ten years) with IANA is that ICANN's RSP evaluation process requires it. Also, we're planning to replace it by the "official" IDN/Variant EPP extension currently in development at

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-galvin-regext-epp-variants/

as soon as that becomes final.

Best regards,

Thomas
