On the system showing arrows, rmt says,
tkremind: font actual TkDefaultFont
-family {DejaVu Sans} -size 10 -weight normal -slant roman -underline 0
-overstrike 0
On the system showing rectangles,
tkremind: font actual TkDefaultFont
-family {DejaVu Sans} -size 10 -weight normal -slant roman -underline 0
-overstrike 0
Those are the same. Weird.
