Yes

Kenwood makes accessory external cable kits
for some of their radios which provide all
the functions via a flying cable lead into
a 15 pin molex (with matching connector and
wire pins). I stock some of these cable kits
and will provide the pins outs for the units
I have. Email me off the list if you want
more information.

It can be quasi done through the mic jack,
but it's not the best way.

B & D Enterprises sells a pretty neat
controller, I often see Boyd selling them
on Ebay for $69

Few things are plug and play when you're
on a small budget.
