I want to thank you all for you input, insight, and stories. You have confirmed exactly what I was thinking.
I too have often experienced vinyl electrical tape getting gooey and sticky in high temp environments (automobiles). This is why I use heat shrink on most things. Also, I didn't think it would be a good sealer on coax connections just by itself. I guess everything has it's purpose. Now how about that waxed linen thread instead of zip ties????....
