"Oh yeah..? Got an Allen B. Dumont..."
Back in the day I bought a bunch of those old DuMont radios at a government auction. Didn't know anything about them but I figured, "how bad could they be?" Well,I found out. I ordered one set of crystals, messed with the thing for a while and finally the whole mess went in the trash. About the only thing I ever encountered that was worse was a bunch of GE "Accent Line" UHF mobiles. It was no mystery why experienced techs. used to call them "Accident Line". Anybody remember the KAAR mobiles? I don't think they even made a base station. It really wasn't too bad of a radio but, if I remember correctly, the transmitter was pretty low power, something like 5 to 7 watts. Had a bunch of those on an RCC that I serviced. They were fairly trouble-free.
