Most SVG drawing software inserts something like this in the <svg/> element: width="180mm" height="120mm" viewBox="0 0 210 140" That creates a fixed-width unscalable diagram Simply remove the width and height elements, but leave the viewbox as is, and the diagram will scale when you resize the browser window (up to screen width, and down to a minimum). For an example, see the Appendix of RFC 8989. I could send you a patched version of rfc9633.html where Figure 2 scales but Figure 1 doesn't. As far as I'm concerned, those width and height elements are preventable damage. Brian
Acrobat generally gives you a lot of options on how to fit your page to a screen. I don’t know enough about HTML and style sheets to know whether something like that could be folded into the HTML version of an RFC. I've been considering adding an option to that, whereby the HTML on the left is not rendered in "pseudo-text" (that "quaintness" is my work, but if you want someone to blame, Lars put it there) but is rendered in more typical HTML.
