I have a little demonstration, not for ABNF but for the related data definition language CDDL. Section 6.2.2 of RFC 7071 in conjunction with Section 3.1 contains a formalized English language description of a JSON data structure. [1]: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7071#section-6.2.2 [2]: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7071#section-3.1 In CDDL, this fits on a slide, see the middle of page 61 of RFC 8610 [3]. [3]: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc8610#page-61 There is no contest. (I briefly considered writing a converter from CDDL to the formalized English language of RFC 7071, but, really, there was no point.)
